Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

About us

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) is the only registered charity (no 1170103) dedicated to supporting innovation in patient care across Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals.

Whether it’s treatment for an emergency, acute condition, pregnancy or long term illness, we believe that every patient deserves the highest quality of care available.

The hospitals have earned the reputation of being among the world’s best academic healthcare organisations, and ACT’s aim is to support those achievements by raising funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff, environmental enhancements and extra comforts for patients that make all the difference over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

We also provide seed funding for early stage research projects, supporting the hospitals’ clinical academics keen to embark on a research career. This funding then often leverages more ambitious research funding opportunities, and as such can be an essential component in identifying global cures and advances in treatment.

The charity in its present form results from the grouping under one body of trustees of the former Addenbrooke’s Charities, The Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cancer Scan Appeal Fund and The Fund for Addenbrooke’s.

The new charity initially took the name Fund & Friends of Addenbrooke’s but on 1st January 2006 assumed the name Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT), to better represent the role and function of the charity.

On 1 April 2009 Addenbrooke’s Abroad and the Addenbrooke’s Recreational and Development Trust came under the umbrella of ACT
